Computer permissions

In this article, you’ll learn how computer permissions work in Chromaport and how to control access to individual computers within a workspace.

Computer permissions allow you to define exactly what actions each member can perform on a specific computer. This gives you precise control over access and ensures that users only have the level of control they need.

How computer access works

Each computer in your workspace can be assigned to selected members. Once assigned, you can define what actions those users are allowed to perform on that specific machine.

There are two ways to manage computer access:

From Computers view

  • Go to the Computers view
  • Select a computer
  • Click 'Manage access'
  • You will see a list of members with permission indicators (e.g. “1/5 permissions”)
  • Click the permissions button to enable or disable specific actions
  • Click 'Apply' to save changes

From Settings

  • Go to Settings
  • Select a member
  • Find the list of assigned computers
  • Click the permissions button next to a computer
  • Adjust permissions and click 'Apply'

Available permissions

Each computer supports the following permissions:

Connect to this computer

Allows the user to remotely connect to the computer.
This permission is enabled by default.

Manage computer access

Allows assigning or removing other users from this computer.

Edit computer and computer apps

Allows editing computer settings and managing assigned applications.

Deploy computer

Allows the user to assign the current device as a host under a selected computer name.

If this permission is enabled, the user will be able to change the 'Hosting as' setting and select from a list of computers for which they have the 'Deploy computer' permission.

Important

Use this option carefully, as it changes how a computer is exposed and used across the workspace.
This means anyone connecting to a host under this name will use the applications assigned to the computer currently associated with that name.

Delete computer

Allows removing the computer from the workspace.

Assigning computers to members

To assign a computer:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select a member
  • Click 'Assign computers'
  • Choose from available computers

Only computers that are not already assigned will be shown.
If all computers are already assigned, you will see 'No computers found'.

Unassigning access

You can remove access in two ways:

From Computers view

  • Go to the Computers view
  • Select a computer
  • Click 'Manage access'
  • Click 'Unassign' next to the selected member
  • Click the permissions button to enable or disable specific actions
  • Click 'Apply' to save changes

From Settings

  • Go to Settings
  • Select a user
  • Click 'Unassign' next to a computer

Important notes

  • A computer cannot be unassigned from its owner
  • The owner always has full permissions (5/5)
  • Owner permissions cannot be modified or restricted
  • Some actions (like “Unassign” or permission toggles) are disabled for owners

Summary

Computer permissions give you fine-grained control over access to your machines. Combined with workspace roles, they allow you to safely share resources while maintaining full control over who can do what.
